Laser
surgery is a state-of-the-art CO2 laser used here for numerous
benefits and a variety of applications.
Benefits
include:
Less bleeding - The laser cauterizes blood vessels while
it cuts tissue. This shortens surgical time, which reduces the
time your pet needs to be under anesthesia, which equates to faster
recovery.
Less pain - The laser seals nerve endings as it cuts tissue.
As a result, your pet will experience less pain and be more comfortable
post-operatively.
Applications and Uses:
Cat declaws
Spays and neuters
Oral
surgery // re-shaping of gums
Mass/tumor removals

We recommend spaying and neutering your cat or dog between 4-6
months of age. In addition to the obvious benefits, like less
behavioral problems (aggression, marking, humping, etc…) there
are numerous health benefits provided by spaying and neutering.

Unspayed
females are more susceptible to uterine infections (pyometra)
and mammary cancer.
Un-neutered males are more susceptible to prostate infections
and prostate enlargement
Neutering also helps eliminate unwanted behavior such as urine
“marking” and aggression

Even
with regular check ups and good preventative care, pets still
develop illnesses from time to time. We have the experience and
skills to diagnose and treat kidney and liver problems, heart
and respiratory diseases, gastrointestinal ailments, hormonal
disorders (diabetes, adrenal and thyroid gland disease), bacterial
and parasitic infections and other diseases affecting the internal
organs. After performing a thorough physical examination, the
doctor will recommend the appropriate diagnostic tests needed
to help diagnose and treat your pet's illness.

Dr.
Paulsen and the staff at Cats & Dogs Veterinary Clinic is dedicated
to providing your pets with state-of-the-art medical care for
the prevention and treatment of disease. We utilize modern laboratory
equipment to perform various blood tests, urinalysis and fecal
examinations in-house. Additional testing is sent out to be performed
at professional veterinary laboratories or universities when necessary.
Radiology (x-ray) procedures are performed by our technicians
and interpreted by our doctor in the clinic. Electrocardiograms
(EKGs), used to evaluate the heart for disease, are performed
in the clinic and transmitted to a board-certified Veterinary
Cardiologist for interpretation. When recommended, a mobile veterinarian
specializing in ultrasound and ultrasound-guided procedures can
be called in to perform these diagnostic modalities at our clinic.

One
of the valuable services we can provide is endoscopy. Endoscopy,
by definition, is "the procedure of looking into the cavities
of the living body". Our endoscope can be used to diagnose upper
respiratory and upper gastrointestinal disease. It can also be
used to perform colonoscopy. Areas of concern can be photographed
or videoed and sent online to board-certified radiographic specialists
for interpretation. Biopsies can be taken and submitted to veterinary
pathologists for histological interpretation. Foreign bodies can
be retrieved if swallowed and remain in the upper GI tract. Cultures
can be obtained for bacterial and fungal identification. Tumors
and masses can be surgically debulked or removed using an endoscope
as well.

Dr. Paulsen can perform a wide range of surgeries
for your pet, from standard spay and neuter procedures to more
complex surgeries, including orthopedic procedures. During surgical
procedures, heart rate, respiration rate and oxygen saturation
is monitored on each patient. We utilize a variety of high-end
anesthetics to ensure your pet's safety. Pain management is important
to us-pain management protocols are tailored specifically for
your pet along with the surgical procedure being performed.

We
use an ultrasonic scaler to rid your pet's teeth of plaque and
tartar. Then, your pet's teeth are polished to smooth the enamel
surface.
A
fluoride treatment is applied followed by an application of
OraVet™.
OraVet™ is a barrier sealant that electrostatically
adheres to the tooth enamel. Once applied, it creates an invisible
barrier that has been clinically proven to significantly reduce
the formation of plaque and calculus.
OraVet Plaque Prevention Gel is for home
use to follow-up with 2 weeks after your pets dental cleaning.
This in-home application maintains the plaque and calculus barrier
created by the sealant at the clinic. For more information about
OraVet™ and to view a demonstration video, click on: oravet.us.merial.com
